Morley: Image Analysis and Evaluation of Statistically Significant Differences in Geometric Sizes of Crop Seedlings in Response to Biotic Stimulation

Image analysis is widely applied in plant science for phenotyping and monitoring botanic agricultural species. Although a lot of software available, tools integrating image statistical assessment seedling growth large groups plants are limited or absent, do not cover the needs researchers. In this study, we developed Morley, free, open-source graphical user interface written Python. Morley automates following workflow: (1) group-wise few thousand seedlings from multiple images; (2) recognition seeds, shoots, roots (3) calculation shoot root lengths surface area; (4) evaluation statistically significant differences between groups; (5) germination rates; (6) visualization interpretation. designed laboratory studies biotic effects on growth, when molecular mechanisms underlying morphometric changes analyzed. The performance was tested using cultivars Triticum aestivum Pisum sativum up to 1 week old. accuracy measured parameters comparable with that obtained ImageJ manual measurements. Possible applications include dose-dependent tests affected by new bioactive compounds fertilizers.
